Engineering

The Engineering Department is dedicated to assisting residents, contractors, and others with concerns involving street lines, drainage, permits, inspections, street analysis, and more. Staff performs surveys, studies, and investigations; capital improvement program development; design and cost estimating for construction; contracting and contract administration; preparation of maps, records, and construction status records and reports; and assists other department staff in managing maintenance, repair, and construction work.

The department manages the construction of streets, sidewalks, bridges, culverts, buildings, and drainage structures; assures proper construction of all public improvements by subdividers and builders; and acts as a consultant to other City Departments and Commissions during the project approval and permitting processes. Additionally, they assist the Highway Department with the supervision and managing of daily operations and assist other departments in the same capacity when requested. Any work done within the City of Groton right-of-way requires a "Driveway Excavation Permit."
