Notary Pubic services are provided by the City Clerk. As required, when notarizing a document, the Notary must see a photo ID if the person is unknown to her. A passport or driver's license would be an acceptable form of ID. If a Notary is uncomfortable with the document, she is not required to notarize it. I do not notarize wills or blank documents. There is no fee for notary services in the City Clerk’s office.

Any resident of Groton wishing to become a Notary Public may receive, from my office, an application and a Notary handbook. Once the application is completed by the applicant, it is forwarded to the Office of the Secretary of the State in Hartford with a $60.00 fee. When it is received back by the applicant, it must be brought to the Groton Town Hall where the oath is given and a signature card is signed and put on file with the Town Clerk. There is a statutory $10.00 fee for this service. They keep a card file of all Notaries who are residents of Groton.
