The City of Groton is a wonderful place to work, play, and raise a family. The City of Groton is the proud host to both General Dynamics Electric Boat and Pfizer’s Research and Development Center, major employers in Southeastern Connecticut. The City has a rich history, much of it associated with our nation’s defense. The City is the home of Fort Griswold, site of the Battle of Groton Heights in 1781, the largest Revolutionary War battle in Connecticut and the last in the northern United States. It is also the home of SUBVETS WWII Memorial East, a memorial park consisting of the conning tower of the USS Flasher and a Wall of Honor inscribed with the names of submariners lost at sea during World War II. A close neighbor to Naval Submarine Base New London, we are proud to be part of the heritage which has caused Groton to be called “The Submarine Capital of the World.” Residents of the City of Groton enjoy superb municipal services thanks to the dedicated employees who make up our municipal work force, including the employees of Groton Utilities and Thames Valley Communications. The City offers extensive opportunities for recreation including baseball fields, tennis courts and basketball courts at Washington Park, the beautifully maintained Eastern Point Beach, a pleasant walk along Birch Plain Creek and numerous City parklets. The City hosts Concerts in the Park in the summer and City Cabaret during the winter months. The City’s Council, Boards and Commissions, consisting entirely of dedicated volunteers, set policy and resolve issues for the City. Openings in Boards and Commissions are posted on our website, and we encourage interested residents to take part in municipal decision-making. Whether you are an employee seeking a quality work place, an individual looking for a supportive residential community, a visitor following the footsteps of history, or a resident hoping to become involved in the community, the City of Groton has something for you. Browse our web site or call our offices for further information. Each of us -- employee, resident, volunteer or visitor – plays a vital part in making the City of Groton a great place to live. On behalf of the City of Groton I urge you to take part in all the City of Groton has to offer. |
