In 2008 the series was expanded to seven concerts. All concerts are held Friday nights in June, July and August, start at 6:30 p.m. and are free. The concert series is co-sponsored and co-produced by Groton Utilities and the City of Groton Parks and Recreation Department. Bands appearing in the Concert in the Park series were: Jay Dempsey’s new band, Jay Dempsey & Highway Call; The Black Burns, a classic rock n’ roll band out of Willimantic; 9Teen with with its Rock N' Soul sound; Dick Campo and his Big Band; High Times, a longtime, local favorite band; The Cartells, a local favorite band for more than 20 years; and the Rock “n” Soul Revue. The concerts are designed to be especially appealing to families for a fun, inexpensive night out. Spectators are encouraged to bring their families and perhaps a picnic supper, since all the concerts are held during the early evening hours.
